Dishwashers are so useful that only a very small portion of the population considers them an appliance of convenience. Anyone who has had a dishwasher break down just before a party or large gathering knows that a dishwasher is not just a helping hand in the kitchen, it is one of the most useful appliances in any home. When a dishwasher stops working it is an annoying inconvenience and if there are big plans in the mix a broken down dishwasher can be a disaster.
Dishwashers operate using a rather simple idea; water is blasted out of spray arm holes in the bottom and just below the top rack inside of the dishwasher. The water will push off any remaining residue on the dishes and that hot water and material will be used to “scrub” the dishes for the entire cycle to ensure nothing remains on the dishes at the end. Soap is dispensed about a quarter of the way into the cycle to begin a sanitizing process that is not achieved with hot water alone. Finally near the end a rinse cycle will run, the previous soap water will be drained and debris will go into the filter, and then fresh water, or fresh water with a rinse agent will complete the wash cycle. Depending on the model and design a final sanitizing steam cycle may run before the drying cycle. When all is said and done, the dishwasher will have cleaned all of your pots, pans, glasses, and dishes with less water and soap than if you had washed them by hand.
